Why I call climate change the climate crisis?

Recently I have been asked by members of the community why I say climate crisis instead of climate change?

My response:

Climate Change threatens to end humanity as we know it. As Greta Thunberg once said "We must act as if our house is on fire". Let me restate this sentence: our house is on fire. Therefore, I see climate change as an emergency. We should call climate change the climate crisis because it is one. By saying the climate crisis we are directing the conversation towards the fact that we are facing an emergency.

I started calling climate change the climate crisis after reading Greta Thunberg's tweet which read, "It’s 2019. Can we all now please stop saying “climate change” and instead call it what it is: climate breakdown, climate crisis, climate emergency, ecological breakdown, ecological crisis and ecological emergency?" Since this tweet hundreds of climate activists have ditched the name "climate change" and began using the name climate crisis.

Today I challenge all of you to start calling the climate crisis like the emergency it is!
